Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have announced an indefinite strike starting 12:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026, over unresolved welfare and administrative issues.
The action, declared by the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), will involve all categories of staff, including workers in FCTA departments, agencies, senior secondary schools, and the College of Education, Zuba.
Speaking in Abuja, JUAC President Rifkatu Iortyer accused FCTA management of breach of trust, inaction, and deliberate demoralisation of workers.
She cited non-remittance of pension and National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions, unpaid promotion arrears, poor working conditions, staff intimidation, and lack of training.
The union also condemned the extension of tenure for retired directors and permanent secretaries, describing it as a violation of Public Service Rules, and rejected the promotion of only 2,000 staff out of over 7,000 who sat for the 2024 promotion exams.
According to the union, the strike will paralyse activities across the FCTA secretariat, departments, and agencies until their demands are met.
As of the time of reporting, FCTA management has not issued an official response to the strike notice.
