The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has paid glowing tribute to former Osun State Governor and elder statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, as he marked his 87th birthday.
Oyetola described Akande as a towering figure in Nigeria’s progressive politics, praising his lifelong commitment to democracy, good governance, and principled leadership.
In a congratulatory message issued by his Special Adviser, Dr.
Bolaji Akinola, the minister highlighted Akande’s tenure as Osun governor (1999–2003), noting that it laid a strong foundation for fiscal discipline, institutional reforms, and people-centred governance.
According to Oyetola, Akande’s influence in shaping and sustaining progressive politics in Nigeria remains profound, earning him widespread respect within and beyond the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Even at 87, Chief Akande remains a moral compass and a voice of reason in our political space,” Oyetola said, adding that the elder statesman’s mentorship continues to guide leaders committed to public service.
The minister prayed for Akande’s continued good health, strength, and many more years of impactful service to Nigeria.
