The Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has insisted it will proceed with its planned nationwide strike on January 12, 2026, despite an interim court order restraining the action.
NARD President, Dr Mohammad Suleiman, stated that the association remains resolute, accusing the Federal Government of negotiating in bad faith. He said the strike would go ahead unless the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) decides otherwise.
The decision comes after the National Industrial Court in Abuja granted an injunction stopping NARD and its officials from embarking on any industrial action, following a suit filed by the Federal Government and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Suleiman argued that resident doctors had shown restraint by suspending an earlier strike in November 2025 after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the government, but alleged that agreed terms were not honoured.
He, however, noted that talks were still ongoing and expressed hope that negotiations could resolve the impasse before the strike date.
If the strike proceeds, it is expected to disrupt healthcare services across public hospitals nationwide.
