The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun online accreditation for journalists and media organisations covering the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Election, scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
In a statement on its official X handle, INEC said,
“INEC has commenced online accreditation for journalists and media organisations intending to cover the FCT Area Council Election scheduled to hold on Saturday, 21st February, 2026. Interested media organisations wishing to deploy journalists for coverage are to apply via: https://imap.inecnigeria.org.”
The portal opened on Monday, December 15, 2025, and will close at midnight on Sunday, February 8, 2026. INEC warned that late submissions will not be entertained, as the system will automatically shut down.
This move follows the commission’s nationwide display of the preliminary register of voters, aimed at enabling Nigerians to verify registration details and request necessary corrections.
