Refined News Story:The 16th Emir of Kano and former Central Bank Governor, Muhammadu Sanusi, has condemned Nigeria’s political leadership for treating public office as a personal and family enterprise rather than a platform for national service.
Speaking at the 15th anniversary of Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria in Lagos, Sanusi said the elite continue to derail the country’s progress by prioritising their own interests over the welfare of citizens.
“We have done enough damage and maybe we need to stop,” he said, stressing that many of Nigeria’s missed opportunities are “deliberate” and rooted in selfish governance.
Sanusi warned that ethnic rivalries, religious tensions and personal ambitions have sustained a dysfunctional system that hinders national unity and development.
He urged citizens especially young people to take ownership of the nation’s future.“The nation belongs to us, not the politicians,” he said.
“Each of us holds a small part of Nigeria and must contribute our quota.
”He called on young Nigerians to unite around a clear ideological vision and work toward building a country different from what he described as a “manufactured Nigeria” defined by division and self-interest.
Sanusi insisted that only a collective, values-driven movement can steer Nigeria toward realising its true potential on the global stage.
