PDP National Convention: Four PDP Governors Storm Ibadan as Party Pushes Ahead in Defiance of Court Order

The political atmosphere within the Peoples Democratic Party intensified on Friday as four serving governors of the party arrived in Ibadan, Oyo State, signaling a firm resolve to proceed with the party’s national convention despite a subsisting Federal High Court order halting the exercise.

Their arrival has heightened expectations ahead of what is shaping up to be a decisive moment for the opposition party.

The South-West Chairman of the PDP, Kamorudeen Ajisafe, confirmed the presence of the governors, emphasizing that preparations for the convention remain in full swing. Ajisafe noted that the governors of Bauchi, Bala Mohammed; Zamfara, Dauda Lawal; Adamawa, Ahmadu Fintiri; and Oyo, Seyi Makinde, are already in Ibadan to coordinate and participate in pre-convention activities.

According to him, the presence of the governors underscores the party’s determination to forge ahead with its internal processes, despite legal hurdles. He added that leaders and delegates from various states have also arrived, expressing confidence that the convention will hold successfully and help reposition the party ahead of upcoming political contests.

The Federal High Court ruling, which temporarily restrained the PDP from conducting the convention, has generated intense internal debate, with party loyalists split between respecting the court directive and safeguarding the party’s constitutional timelines.

However, the arrival of the four governors strongly suggests that the party is leaning toward continuity and internal restructuring, rather than halting its momentum.

Political observers are closely watching Ibadan, as the decisions made at the convention could shape the trajectory of the opposition party and redefine its strategy heading into the next electoral cycle.
