Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has refuted widespread social media rumours alleging that former Governor Chief Willie Obiano passed away in a London hospital.
In a statement released on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo stated that he personally spoke with Obiano and affirmed that the former governor is “alive and well”.
Describing the circulating reports as “wicked and irresponsible”, Soludo expressed deep concern over the increasing spread of unverified claims on social media, especially those capable of causing public panic.
He urged journalists and online publishers to adhere strictly to professional standards by verifying sensitive information through authorised sources before publication.
“The spread of unverified death rumours erodes public trust,” the statement read, warning against the dangers of misinformation in the digital age.
The Anambra State Government called on the public to disregard the speculation entirely, assuring citizens that Chief Obiano remains hale and hearty.
Governor Soludo further extended his good wishes to the former governor, praying for his continued strength, peace and a long, fulfilling life.
