Sokoto Police Bust Bandit Financiers, Motorcycle Theft Syndicate in Joint Operations

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested suspected bandit financiers and a motorcycle theft ring in two separate operations carried out across Sokoto and neighbouring Zamfara State.Police spokesman, Ahmed Rufai, said on Friday that three suspects were arrested in Tangaza LGA for allegedly funding a notorious bandit group by selling rustled cattle on their behalf. Four stolen cows were recovered. One of the suspects, Ruwa Ginyo — identified as the Fulani head of Gidan-Madi — was arrested alongside two accomplices. Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, described the group as part of the “financial engine room” sustaining bandit activities, calling the arrests a major breakthrough.Hours later, the Command’s Strike Force raided Talata Mafara in Zamfara State, where several members of a motorcycle theft and resale syndicate were apprehended. Two motorcycles earlier reported stolen in Sokoto were recovered.CP Musa said the operations show the Command’s increasing reach across state borders.“Our message is clear: if you commit a crime in Sokoto, we will find you — even if you run to another state,” he warned. He urged livestock and motorcycle dealers to verify documents before transactions and report suspicious activities promptly.
