Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reaffirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains alive, strong, and resilient despite ongoing internal disagreements within the party.
Jonathan made the statement while receiving members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by National Chairman Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), during a consultative meeting at his private office in Abuja. The discussion focused on reconciliation efforts and strategic repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He described the PDP as a vital pillar of Nigeria’s democracy, noting that it is the only surviving original political party since 1998. Jonathan emphasized the party’s historical resilience and institutional strength, stressing that strong political parties are essential for democratic stability.
Reflecting on his political journey, Jonathan expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him the platform to serve as Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President, and President, adding that he remains committed to supporting the party.
In response, Dr. Turaki assured Jonathan that the PDP leadership is pursuing a comprehensive “Rebirth Agenda” aimed at rebuilding and unifying the party. He noted that while the party prefers dialogue over litigation, it has been forced to defend itself legally due to lawsuits from aggrieved members, with reconciliation efforts expected to intensify once court cases are resolved.
