Three months after 25-year-old Comfort Uwakwe went missing, her family has rejected police claims that her disappearance was the result of a road accident, following the discovery of a severed leg allegedly linked to her case.
Comfort, a resident of Oshodi, Lagos, travelled to Epe on October 25, 2025, to visit her boyfriend, Olajide Akinshola. According to her family, she initially confirmed her safe arrival but later made a distress call to a friend, saying she had been locked in a room and feared for her life.
Her phone went off shortly after, and she has not been heard from since.
The family reported her missing two days later.
Nearly a month after her disappearance, Akinshola was arrested and allegedly told police that Comfort became tipsy after they drank together, was locked in a hotel room, and later died in an accident along the Epe highway.
Police later recovered a severed leg at the alleged accident scene, which they claimed could belong to Comfort.
However, her family strongly disputed this, questioning how only one body part was found weeks later and demanding clarity through proper forensic investigation. They were also reportedly asked to fund the autopsy and DNA test.
In a statement, the Owalla Town Development Union (OTDU) raised serious concerns about gaps in the investigation, including the hotel’s role, the lack of other remains, and the credibility of the accident narrative.
The family says they are traumatised and are calling on security agencies to ensure transparency, thorough investigation, and justice.
