The Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Saidu Audu, has assured the Borno State Government that the Boko Haram insurgency and other armed threats in the Lake Chad region are nearing an end.
Audu gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum in Maiduguri as part of his familiarisation tour after assuming office in November 2025. He said the MNJTF has adopted a comprehensive strategy aimed at taking the fight directly to terrorist enclaves across the region.
According to the MNJTF commander, ongoing operations by MNJTF troops and partner forces indicate significant progress toward restoring lasting peace and security in the Lake Chad Basin.
Governor Zulum congratulated Audu on his appointment and reaffirmed Borno State’s continued support for the task force.
He praised the military’s efforts and urged sustained operations in the Lake Chad islands and other ungoverned areas often used by terrorists as hideouts, stressing that denying them safe havens is key to ending the insurgency.
