Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ordered the immediate employment of children of fallen servicemen in the state as part of efforts to support families of military personnel who died in active service.
The directive was issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony at the Government House.
Governor Fubara said the move reflects the state government’s commitment to the welfare of the Armed Forces, other security agencies, and the families left behind by fallen heroes.
He instructed the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, to ensure the prompt implementation of the employment directive, describing it as a form of socio-economic support for affected families.
Fubara reaffirmed Rivers State’s continued collaboration with military formations through logistical and welfare support to strengthen security operations.
He paid tribute to Nigerian soldiers who lost their lives in past wars, peacekeeping missions, and ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the country.
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for improving military welfare, upgrading equipment, and addressing internal security challenges.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State chapter, Kuu Aminkipo Promise, praised the state government’s support, highlighting the governor’s ₦100 million donation to the 2026 Emblem Appeal Fund as a reassuring gesture to veterans, widows, and dependants of fallen soldiers.
