A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday destroyed a one-storey commercial building at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, causing losses estimated at several millions of naira.
The fire, which started around midnight on Somoye Street, affected shops dealing in computers and accessories. No lives were lost, though a Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service official sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and LASAMBUS swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The entire upper floor of the structure was completely razed due to the high volume of combustible materials stored inside.
Confirming the incident, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said all goods in the building were totally destroyed and the structure was partially compromised.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, while damping-down operations were carried out to prevent re-ignition.
Traders and residents were seen at the scene assessing losses as authorities cordoned off the area for safety checks.
