Abuja Jan. 8, 2026. The Federal Government has assured that members of Nigeria’s Super Eagles will receive their AFCON ’25 group-stage bonuses by Friday, the Minister of State for Finance, Hon. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, said on Thursday.
The assurance follows reports of unrest in the camp after players threatened to boycott training and travel for the quarter-final in Marrakesh over unpaid bonuses.
Uzoka-Anite said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has fast-tracked foreign-exchange processing to honor players’ preference for foreign currency, and that final transfers to domiciliary accounts are “in flight” and should reflect from today or tomorrow.
The minister added the government is streamlining future disbursements to align with international best practice and reiterated federal support for the team’s welfare as the Super Eagles prepare to face Algeria in the knockout rounds.
Short, clear, and to the point the payments are being processed and the government says they will arrive imminently.
